Practice is Perfect by Iomma Practice is Perfect by Iomma
Rainbow Dash has the best heroes. ^^

Someone in /r/mylittlepony by the name of TheVoiceofSpitfire suggested I try my gimp hand at Spitfire, so, there y'all go :3

Also, adding the Power Rangers Theme Song to my playlist made a world of difference ^^

Once again, coffee+mouse+Gimp+2 days = the above.

And again, let me know how I did! I don't have premium, otherwise I'd ask for critique the 'popular' way. Get nitpicky! :D And it's almost just perfect for desktop size, so, enjoi!

Like I said before, it's like you're taking the shows graphics (style and palette) and adding more detail. I'm not sure how lighting works at high altitude, but the "mid-air" shadows look fantastic (I just spent ten minutes searching Google for accuracy or terminology and found nothing lol). Nevertheless, I'm loving everything from the shades to the subtle glare in front of her front-right leg to the clouds.
FINALLY! It took me fifteen damn minutes to notice an error. I always look for something to criticize if it's this good because NOTHING is perfect. All I can say is her ear looks a bit small. I don't know if some ponies look like that, but most in the show (including her) have larger ears that start lower on the head.

I know you didn't ask for a critique, but you take criticism so well. Whatever I seem to like of yours I actually love, so I want to see you polish yourself. People like you need more recognition :(

I love critique! Not only keeps me modest, but helps me know where to do better!

And nothing is perfect, I also think her eyes are a tad too close together, but that was just staring at the spot on the head trying to figure the eye placement lol ^^

I love this image. ^_^ Beautiful skies, stylish theme, dynamic goings-on in the background, and a nice, sweet image of Spitfire.

The way you're using Spitfire on its own has the virtue of being fairly unique, so kudos for that.

Great job with the shadows, both the dramatic diagonal ones and the ones giving the characters dimension. Keep up the good work!

The only critism I can make is that the angle of the line of Spitfire's eyelids convey the impression of saddness in her eyes, not sure if that is intentional or not. Other than thatiIt's a wonderful piece of art!

The emotion portrayed in her eyes is intentional, but may feel a bit off from the idea I may have had, but I think makes the image feels sweet and touching. I do plan on fleshing out my ability to portray emotions on ponies for future images, and thank you for the critique and compliment! ^^

Seen it now, wow must have taken you ages to do such a long comic.
That is so Pinkie, love that Celestia has a button for Lunar Banishment and Pinkie Rocking out with a guitar made out of a piece of the Sun and the PinkieNuke!

Very nicely done, I have to say ^^

If I had to offer one critique, I'd have to say the ear looks just a tad short and thick. Could just be me, though :P

Make more and sell 'em as posters, I know I haven't seen enough (or any) like these in stores :D

I can most certainly do my best!

[link] First off, Bob Ross will show you the ways of real world paint, not directly relating to Gimp, there are tricks to be learned. The Spitfire above, started out as a very, very blobby mess of color, and more color. What I do is after getting a rough shape of what I want, I use the smudge brush and Ctrl+Z to shape those blobs of color to the painterly shapes I wish them to be in. I can probably post more 'tutorial'-ish things here, but the key point is practice practice, practice! You can watch me to keep an eye out for those ^^

And First Person shooters help limber up that mouse wrist nicely :3

Heh, the only time I ever used gimp was when I made a map for my DnD campaign, and that was exactly what I did. I will practice for sure! Thanks for the tips!

I play Starcraft, and I have for 10 years. No fps needed for me to limber up! ;D

You did this with a mouse and GIMP? I'm very, VERY impressed and a little jealous, but also really glad to see someone else working with a mouse! Also good to know it takes you time, I feel like even more of an amateur than I already am since it takes me SO LONG to draw anything compared to everyone else churning stuff out like it's nothing.

I like the way her mane and tail outlines are fuzzier like actual hair. You did a great job imitating smooth lines and pressure-adjusting-thickness. The background is pretty simple but fits the picture pretty well. Some of the smaller details are great, like the faint shadows cast by the ponies in the air, the suggestion of a lens flares as if taken with a camera?, and the goggles on Spitfire's head. I do wish it were easier to see some detail on the two ponies in the background, though.

And it's a proven fact that the first thousand or so pictures you draw will not meet expectations! I've taken on drawing for only 14 years or so now, and only recently in the past two years moved onto digital artwork, taking a stroll through my Scraps gallery is almost nightmarish for me. We all started somewhere, just keep at it, and just remember to have fun with it! Even if you loathe your own artwork ^^

I kinda rushed the background, nearly 95% of the time spent on this was painting Spitfire, which can sometimes cause mistakes, or a lack of inherent detail. Clouds in Gimp I find easy enough to do, but looking at it now, I can see I should have put a lot more detail into the Wonderbolts in the background ^^

Ty for your critique! I'll be sure to pay more attention to the minor details in the future! :D

Well the fact that you spent more time on Spitfire shows! I didn't have anything to say about her really because she looks great! And I wasn't really looking for it but thank you for the encouragement, I appreciate it :)

I ship SoarenFire, and started drafting a fic where they get married and start a family... and saw this.. and went.. oh wow this fits it perfectly.. Spitty being brought 'home' after her last performance before she has her foal... its a bit of an emotional scene..and this fits just nails it.

unforunaly my muse is.. fickle and most of my stuff never gets past a rough draft. it either gets dumped ina drawer or re-written 20 times and tossed out. That or it gets finsihed, put on a nice website... which probptly edit and cencores it into oblivion or deletes it and kicks me. oh well.
